Kay...'I've always had pets but cavies have helped me through a time when physically I was at my lowest.....'

At Home Kay and her husband John had their dogs; mainly jack russells and rescued greyhounds :) but with Kay's health failing and then needing major heart surgery Kay's mobilty suffered with not being able to handle the dogs as much as she wanted to....plus being a dog breeder in her past it became quite frustrating not having that hands on experience as before. A visit to Pets at homes resulted in a pair of guinea pigs coming home.....then another...and another lol.
It was at this point seeing the fun her daughter Kim had entering rabbit shows that Kay asked those fatefull words...'whats it entale to show guinea pigs Kim'...and the rest was history :)
Kay and John have their own purpose built shed which John has fully lined and insulated....and with her own stud settled in Kay spends most of her days assessing stock and looking foward to the next show....the guinea pigs have certainly ended up being more than a pet now.
Kim...'having children and animals at the same time is like fish n chips or strawberries and cream lol one always comes with the other....'

Kim was lucky as a child in that she grew up in an environment that allowed her to have access to various types of animals :) ''its what helps children to learn responsibility and the important things to do with life etc.''
When Kim got married and had her two boys she hoped that would carry on but it was not until the boys were in primary school and when she met her husband Steve that the animals really took off :) as a husband and wife partnership they showed rabbits as Tarax Stud...then more animals came along including chickens, 2 dogs, 2 pygmy goats and then when Kims mum asked about showing guinea pigs that she now has a joint partnership with Kay showing as Kaimyk Cavies. With both Kim and Kay using there past knowledge of breeding, showing and colour genetics they hope to produce the perfect guinea pigs.....whats nice is that although our children have all grown up....the grandchildren cannot wait to come over to see 'nanny's guinea pigs :)
